Drums, drums, drums!

I recently had the pleasure of famed drummer Derek Roddy bringing his kit to my studio. We are creating his new DVD that will be out this fall. During the 75 hours of staring at computer screens we found time to jam and brainstorm. One idea that I want to make happen is posting regularly to the rscottjohnson.com blog and producing BTS (Behind the scenes) videos. Derek and I had lots of “light bulb” moments that I wish had been caught on camera. Stay tuned…

Extremely nice kit! I see the Sonor’s in the background. You go fella! Please upload some BTS stuff with Derek. Can’t wait to see the new DVD. What is it called?

Great shot. I agree with you about the BTS stuff. If done correctly it can really help you develop your business or brand. It gives potential clients the best idea of what it is like to work with you. Not to mention showing off all your cool gear. Looking forward to more posts from you. Its been a while… Do a post on your film rig.

I’ve also noticed that companies like Zacuto, Small HD and RedRock Micro are following up with me after a purchase asking for links to any gear reviews that I do featuring their gear. This is so smart on their part. Every company should do that. I plan to review the SmallHD DP6. Having come from using the Marshalls – the DP6 really impressed me.

What do you like about the DP6? Do you use the hot shoe to mount it? I have the 5.6 Marshall and find it throws the balance of the camera off using the hot shoe. It makes it tough to set the counter balance. Great site by the way. Some really great projects.

Kevin I like the DP6 for several reasons; the build quality is excellent – Aluminum frame vs the plastic marshall (5.6). Use a Noga arm to mount the monitor off the camera. Some tripods like the Sachtler FSB8 have a 1/4-20 mount point where you can attach the monitor.
